As I played Astro Bot, I didn’t find myself wishing for a more powerful PlayStation 5 or the upcoming PS5 Pro. The graphics in Astro Bot are already great, and the gameplay was what really mattered to me.

It lets players explore vast open worlds with different layers: the surface, the underground depths, and the sky islands above. And all of this runs smoothly on the current Switch hardware.
Nintendo has also delivered some of the best-looking games in recent years. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and even ARMS still look fantastic, even though they run on weaker hardware. Nintendo knows how to make the most of what it has, and that’s what makes me so excited for the Switch 2. Imagine what they could do with a little more power!
While Sony focuses on photorealistic graphics, I prefer Nintendo’s Pixar-like art style. Games like Astral Chain, Link’s Awakening, and Octopath Traveler stand out because of their unique visual design, not because they try to look real. Nintendo’s creativity in working around hardware limitations makes me believe the Nintendo Switch 2 will be something truly special.
What to Expect from Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t just going to offer prettier versions of games we’ve already played. Nintendo is known for delivering new ideas with every console generation. Sure, there will probably be some remakes and remasters, but we can also expect exciting new games that take full advantage of the new hardware.
The Switch 2 will likely launch with titles from Nintendo’s biggest franchises. We could see new entries in the Mario Kart, Super Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Splatoon, Kirby, and Animal Crossing series. These games won’t just look better, they’ll also show off the unique features of the new hardware.
While there’s always a chance the Switch 2 could fail to meet expectations, it’s much more likely to feel like a breath of fresh air. Playing Astro Bot reminded me of just how much I love Nintendo’s approach to gaming.
