It is an Indian multinational company whose full name is Madras Rubber Factory (MRF). This company mainly deals in Tire Manufacturing. This corporation was established in 1946 at Tiruvottiyur, Tamil Nadu. K. M. Mammen Mappillai, a recipient of prestigious honors like Padma Shri, is known as the founder of MRF. Only a few companies are ahead of this in the field of tire manufacturing. At present, it is the sixth largest tire manufacturer company in the world, while in India it remains in the first place. Apart from tyres, it is also engaged in the business of Toys, Sports Equipment, Conveyor Belt, Paints and Coats. Presently its headquarter is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and its CEO is Rahul Mammen Mappillai.
The father of K. M. Mammen Mappillai, who started this organization, was an active participant in the freedom struggle, due to which he had to go to jail. To support his family in the absence of his father, Mappillai started selling balloons. With which his income started, he was also able to continue his studies. After this he started a small unit of Toy Balloon Manufacturing in Madras in 1946, after which in 1952 the same unit started the work of Tread Rubber. Which took this business forward rapidly in the market and the sale of rubber products made by him started increasing. Seeing the progress in his rubber business, he turned his inclination towards the tire industry and established a private company in November 1960, which got involved in the manufacturing of both rubber and tyres.
To further his business, he made Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company of America his partner. After which by the time of 1967, it had become the first company in India to export its tires to America. Thereafter, MRF focused on new dimensions of its business, which resulted in the manufacture of Nylon Tires for the first time in 1973. During this time this corporation had made its mark all over the world. From abroad to Indian companies, MRF tires were considered the most suitable for their cars. In 1979 Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co terminated its partnership with MRF, which has since been renamed as MRF Ltd, which continues to this day. Which is currently being endorsed by World Class Batsman like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
