Washington commanders kicker : It didn’t last long, but Cade York’s stint with the Washington Commanders is gone. The team cut him after he missed two hard field goals in their season-opening game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
We always hear stories about how the National Football League is a cutthroat environment in which even if a guy makes it out of training camp, he may still be slashed. York got firsthand experience with that Monday, following his two turnovers in Washington’s 37-20 loss.
York missed a 56-yard field goal and a 47-yarder in Sunday’s game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, both of which went wide right. The Cleveland Browns selected York in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Commanders are poised to sign Austin Seibert to replace York, according to ESPN.
We all know how horrible the Washington Commanders are, but I have to defend them here.
A kicker has only one job: kick the ball through the post. What good is a kicker if he can’t do that?
As a kicker, missing two field goals in your first game might be detrimental to your team’s success.
Any kicker in the middle or lower tiers will be cut after that.
