The cruise line had initially hoped that recent work would resolve the speed issues affecting the vessel. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, engineers have not managed to fix the problem, leading to the removal of the ship from service. This decision comes after a series of itinerary adjustments on its current 8-night Eastern Caribbean voyage, which began on August 24.
Impact on Current Voyage and Previous Disruptions
Carnival Vista’s current voyage has already been affected by the ship’s mechanical issues. Departing on August 24, the ship experienced trouble affecting its speed, which led to shortened port times in Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The vessel was initially scheduled to return to Port Canaveral by September 1, but the problems persisted, requiring further adjustments.
The speed issues had previously impacted the ship’s sailings, starting with disruptions at the end of its August 4 journey and continuing through the August 10 voyage. The current situation has forced Carnival Cruise Line to make the difficult decision to cancel the September 7 sailing, which was set to visit Aruba, Curacao, and Turks and Caicos.
Passenger Compensation and Refunds

Passengers will receive a full refund for their cruise fare, including any pre-purchased shore excursions and FUNShop items. The refunds will be processed to the original form of payment.
As a gesture of goodwill, Carnival is extending a 100 percent Future Cruise Credit (FCC) to all affected guests. This credit can be used for any new booking made by August 31, 2025, providing flexibility for travelers looking to reschedule their cruise plans.
Additionally, guests who booked non-refundable airfare independently are eligible to receive reimbursement for air change fees up to $200 per person. To qualify, passengers must submit proper documentation. However, if compensation is received from airlines or travel insurance providers, Carnival will not offer additional reimbursement.
