Railways on alert regarding floods in Bihar, monitoring being done through 'Water Level Monitoring System' Hajipur, July 9 (IANS) Major rivers in Bihar are in spate. Railways is also on alert in view of the possible floods. East Central Railway is monitoring the water level of rivers on various railway bridges through 'Water Level Monitoring System'. It is said that this system installed on the bridges of various divisions provides information to the officials through SMS.

To monitor the water level of rivers, 'water level monitoring systems' have been installed on a total of 57 important railway bridges located on various sections of East Central Railway. Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway Saraswati Chandra said that to monitor the water level of rivers on important bridges during this rainy season, the system has been installed on Ganga, Kosi, Budhi Gandak, Bagmati, Kareh, Kamala, Kushha of Samastipur division, Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Budhi Gandak of Sonpur division and Ganga, Kiul, Son, Punpun, Karmanasha, Sakri rivers of Danapur division.

Apart from this, 'water level monitoring systems' have been installed on the railway bridges built on the Son and Karmanasha rivers of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya division and Damodar, Koel, Rihand rivers and Tilaiya dam of Dhanbad division. He said that the information about the water level from this system is received by the concerned officer through automated SMS. With the installation of modern 'water level monitoring system', the information about the water level on the railway bridges built on rivers is easily available to the officials. This system has a sensor connected to the solar panel, which also has a chip. This sensor is connected to the track management system. At regular intervals every day, the information about the water level of the rivers is received on the mobile numbers of the concerned officers and employees through SMS. According to the railway official, getting the information about the water level of the rivers on time makes it easier to protect the railway track.
