The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has achieved a remarkable milestone with its newly launched Bima Sakhi Yojana, aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and contributing to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). Within just one month of its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme has garnered over 52,511 registrations.
A Boost for Women Empowerment
Under this initiative, 27,695 Bima Sakhis have already received appointment letters to sell policies, and 14,583 have actively started working as policy agents, LIC confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
Siddhartha Mohanty, Managing Director and CEO of LIC, emphasized the program’s ambitious goal:
“Our objective is to ensure that every panchayat in the country has at least one Bima Sakhi within one year.”
To support this vision, LIC is equipping women with essential skills and providing them with advanced digital tools to excel in their roles as Bima Sakhis.
Financial Support and Earnings Structure
The Bima Sakhi Yojana offers women both financial stability and professional growth. As part of the program:
- Each Bima Sakhi receives a monthly stipend for three years:
- ₹7,000 in the first year.
- ₹6,000 in the second year.
- ₹5,000 in the third year.
- This stipend serves as a foundational allowance while agents earn additional commissions based on the policies they sell, with earnings increasing proportionally to their business performance.
A Step Towards Inclusive Development
The Bima Sakhi Yojana is not just an insurance initiative; it is a pathway to women’s empowerment, financial independence, and inclusive development. With its rapid adoption, LIC’s vision of empowering women across every corner of the country is steadily becoming a reality.
This initiative stands as a testament to how targeted programs can drive social and economic progress, especially for women in rural and semi-urban areas.
