Humana medicare advantage : Humana has made great progress in building its senior-focused primary care business in recent years, and a new study identifies locations where this model is succeeding.
The study, undertaken by the Humana Healthcare Research team in collaboration with Harvard researcher J. Michael McWilliams, M.D., Ph.D., examines data from six senior-focused primary care groups on over 421,000 Medicare Advantage participants in 2021.
It discovered that patients in these groups had 17% more primary care visits overall. This includes 39% more visits among Black patients and 21% more among low-income patients, potentially addressing inequities in these populations.
According to the study, people who participate in a senior-focused primary care paradigm have better outcomes on a variety of quality indicators, including cancer screenings, medication adherence, and blood pressure control. The researchers did state that further investigation is required to refine these findings.
