On Thursday, August 22, the 97-year-old wooden roller coaster at Luna Park experienced an issue with a damaged chain sprocket in the motor room while ascending. The issue caused the operators to pause the trip in the middle, and passengers were safely exited without incident, according to New York City’s Department of Buildings.
Footage shared on social media shows a motorcyclist being carefully steered down the tracks.
Inspectors from New York City’s Department of Buildings inspected the site on Friday and issued a ticket for the malfunctioning equipment and failure to report the incident promptly.
