Happy Gilmore 2 trailer: Christopher McDonald, well known for his legendary role as Shooter McGavin in the 1996 Hollywood sports comedy Happy Gilmore, has recently announced that a sequel is in the works.
During an interview with Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan, McDonald stated that he had access to the first manuscript of the sequel’s script, which was provided to him by none other than original star Adam Sandler.
McDonald stated that Sandler was convinced that fans would be pleased with what Happy Gilmore 2 has in store.
‘You’ll love this,’ Sandler promised McDonald
McDonald discussed his recent interaction with Sandler, during which the Spaceman actor revealed plans for a sequel.
He described Sandler as saying, “McDonald, you’re gonna love this,” before handing him the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.
McDonald showed interest for the idea and affirmed its continuous progress.
However, he sarcastically stated that he did not want to be held accountable if plans changed.

Sequel speculated to premiere on Netflix
There is speculation that the sequel will launch on Netflix, given Sandler’s partnership with the streaming giant through his production firm, Happy Madison (the name is a combination of Happy Gilmore and Sandler’s other film, Billy Madison).
However, neither Netflix nor Sandler’s reps have corroborated this assertion.
The original Happy Gilmore picture was a box office success, grossing about $40 million worldwide and cementing Sandler’s image as a top comedic star of the 1990s.
A look back on ‘Happy Gilmore’
The original Happy Gilmore, co-written by Sandler and directed by Dennis Dugan (Grown Ups), opened over three decades ago.
The story revolves around Happy Gilmore (Sandler), an unsuccessful hockey player dealing with rage issues who discovers his talent for golf.
The plot revolved around Happy’s attempts to win money on the golf tour in order to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure.
McDonald played Happy’s arrogant pro golfing competitor in the film.
‘Happy Gilmore’ starred Carl Weathers and Julie Bowen
The original Happy Gilmore cast included Julie Bowen (Modern Family) and the recently dead Carl Weathers.
Sandler paid tribute to Weathers on social media, describing him as a “true great man.”
Universal Pictures distributed the film, which is regarded a modern masterpiece.
More details about Happy Gilmore 2, including the extra cast and release date, have yet to be revealed.
