This side quest is worth your time as it not only provides valuable rewards but also unveils hidden lore about the rat and tiger denizens of the valley. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to completing this quest!
Step 1: Find the Yellow-Robed Squire in Rockrest Flat
To begin, locate the Yellow-Robed Squire sitting by a rock in Yellow Wind Ridge’s Fright Cliff region, just past Squall Hideout. The nearest save point is the “Rockrest Flat” Keeper’s Shrine. Head north past the wooden fence until you reach a wide, open plain where you’ll find the Yellow-Robed Squire. Talk to him, and he’ll reveal that he’s suffering from a hangover and needs a Sobering Stone. Keep talking to him until you exhaust all his dialogue options.
Step 2: Obtain a Sobering Stone
You’ll need to find a Sobering Stone to help the Yellow-Robed Squire. You can either explore Windrest Hamlet or buy one from the stony shopkeeper after completing the Man-In-Stone questline for 6,480 Will. It’s cheaper to explore Windrest Hamlet for the stone. To get there, defeat the Tiger Vanguard at Crouching Tiger Temple, then continue to the “Windrest Bridge” Shrine and enter the hamlet. Smash the glowing jar near the Rat Imperial Guard in the central square to obtain the Sobering Stone.
Step 3: Give the Sobering Stone to Yellow-Robed Squire
Return to Rockrest Flat and give the Sobering Stone to the Yellow-Robed Squire. He’ll feel better but now claims he’s hungry for meat. Head to Crouching Tiger Temple, where he can be found in the second right-hand alcove on the stairs. Speak with him again; he will complain about the meat quality and request a vegetable – the Jade Lotus.
Step 4: Give Jade Lotus to Yellow-Robed Squire
The Jade Lotus is found near water pools or can be purchased from Shrines for 90 Will. Once you have it, return and give it to the Yellow-Robed Squire. He’ll mention giving a gold piece to a senior brother and then disappear.
Step 5: Obtain the Arhat Gold Piece
To get the Arhat Gold Piece, you must defeat the First Prince of Flowing Sands. Head to the Valley of Despair Keeper Shrine, between Sandgate Village and Crouching Tiger Temple. If you’ve already defeated his family, throw a Pungent Flesh Chunk into the crevasse to lure him out. Defeat the First Prince to obtain the gold piece.
Step 6: Defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire
Return to Rockrest Flat, where the Yellow-Robed Squire will challenge you. Avoid his sand clouds and attack using skills like Immobilise and A Pluck of Many. Defeat him to receive the Snout Mask headgear, which boosts your attack temporarily after using your Gourd. Afterward, you can follow him through doors leading to a secret area.
Step 7: Enter the Kingdom of Sahali and Defeat Tiger Vanguard
You’ll now enter the Kingdom of Sahali, a secret area that reveals past events from Yellow Wind Ridge. Here, you’ll fight the Tiger Vanguard, an easier
